Privacy Policy

CED Export (“CED Export,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by MD&A Inc., a Make More Creative project, at cedexport.ca. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use CED Export to create an export plan, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. By using CED Export, you agree to the practices described here.
Your data is not used to train AI models. To generate your plan we send your information to third-party AI providers whose commercial terms prohibit using submitted data to train their models. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to train any AI models of our own. See How your data is processed by AI below.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address and an encrypted (hashed) password, managed through our authentication provider. We never store your password in plain text.
Business and plan information
To build your export plan, you provide information about your business through our guided intake — this can include your company details, products and their classification codes, target markets, customers, competitive information, marketing history, financial figures, export goals, and any brand assets you choose to upload. We also generate and store market research produced during the process, and the plan sections created for you.
Payment information
When you purchase a plan, payment is processed by our third-party payment provider. We receive confirmation of payment and limited billing details, but we do not collect or store your full card number. If you access CED Export through a sponsor-provided voucher, we record the voucher and its redemption.
Usage and technical information
We collect basic technical information needed to operate the service securely and reliably, such as log data and records of the AI operations run on your behalf.
How we use your information
- To create, display, edit, and deliver your export plan.
- To operate, secure, maintain, and improve the service.
- To process payments and manage vouchers.
- To provide support and respond to your requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
How your data is processed by AI
CED Export uses artificial intelligence to research markets and write your plan. To do this, we send the information you provide (and the research we gather) to third-party AI and research providers. We deliberately choose providers whose commercial API terms state that they do not use data submitted through their API to train their models.
As of the date above, plan generation uses Anthropic’s Claude models via Anthropic’s commercial API, and market research uses Perplexity and Firecrawl. Anthropic does not train its models on data submitted through its commercial API. Each provider processes your data only to return a result to us, subject to its own terms. We do not use your data to train any models ourselves, and we do not sell it.
AI-generated content can contain errors. Please review the Terms of Use for important information about the accuracy and appropriate use of AI-generated plans.
Where your data is stored
Your account and plan data are stored with our cloud database and storage provider in a Canadian region (Canada Central). Some sub-processors we rely on to run the service — including our AI, research, payment, background-job, and hosting providers — may process limited data outside Canada in order to return results to us.
How we share information
We share information only as needed to run CED Export:
- Service providers / sub-processors: our database and storage host, AI and research providers, payment processor, background-job platform, and web host, each acting on our behalf.
- Sponsors: if you access CED Export through a voucher provided by a sponsoring organization (such as an economic development agency), we may share limited information with that sponsor about voucher redemption and plan status.
- Legal and safety: where required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account and plan data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us; some records may be retained where required by law.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law (including Canada’s PIPEDA), you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may withdraw consent to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, access controls that restrict each account to its own plans, and reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to limit access to it.
Cookies
We use essential cookies needed to keep you signed in and to operate the service. We do not use them for third-party advertising.
Children
CED Export is a business tool intended for use by adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of majority.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated through the service where appropriate.
